The history of Focus Eye Clinic
Focus Eye Clinic was founded in 2011 by Dr. Peter Evens, with the goal of making high-quality eye care accessible to patients in the region. However, the origins of the clinic date back to the 1990s, when the Evens brothers, from a renowned family of ophthalmologists in Belgium, actively consulted in several ophthalmology practices, including one in Wemmel and one in Koekelberg. Over the years, the Evens family was known for their excellent reputation and dedication in Belgian ophthalmology.
Under the impetus of Dr. Peter Evens, these separate cabinets were merged in 2011, leading to the creation of Focus Eye Clinic Wemmel. This marked the beginning of a progressive eye center focused on specialized treatments and innovative techniques.
In 2018, Focus Eye Clinic was acquired by its two current owners and eye surgeons, Dr. Bart Pion and Dr. Nashwan Al-Sabai. With their vision and expertise, the clinic continued to expand and in 2019, Focus Eye Clinic Dilbeek also became part of the group. Until 2023, Dr. Pion, Dr. Al-Sabai and Dr. Evens worked together to further expand the clinic and position it as a reference center for eye surgery in Belgium.
An important milestone came in 2020, when Dr. Bart Pion performed extramural retinal surgery for the first time in Benelux. This first confirmed the clinic as a pioneer in innovative ophthalmic treatments.
Today, Focus Eye Clinic has grown into one of the largest eye clinics in Belgium, with a particular specialization in glasses removal surgery via laser eye surgery. Thanks to the most advanced femtolaser technology, which Focus Eye Clinic is one of the few in Belgium to have in-house, we offer our patients extremely precise and safe treatments.
With a strong team of 9 doctors and 17 permanent support staff, including nurses, healthcare professionals, optometrists and front desk staff, Focus Eye Clinic guarantees professional, multidisciplinary care. Dr. Bart PION - Specialist in refractive surgery
Dr. Bart Pion received his degree in Medicine magna cum laude from the Free University of Brussels in 2002. He specialized in cataract, vitreoretinal and refractive surgery, with a strong focus on precision and innovation.
His continuous development is supported by regular participation in renowned training courses and international congresses, where he always embraces the latest techniques and innovations.
Dr. Nashwan Al-Sabai - Expert in eye laser treatments
Dr. Nashwan Al-Sabai received his degree in Medicine from the Free University of Brussels in 2006. His passion for ophthalmology led him to further specialization, culminating in the prestigious title of Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO). With a strong focus on innovation and continuous development, he is a respected expert in cataract and corneal surgery.
