FemtoClear (Clear Lens Exchange).
FemtoClear (Clear Lens Exchange): The Best Solution for Glasses Free Vision for Presbyopia and High Refractive Anomalies
What is Femtoclear

FemtoClear, also known as Clear Lens Exchange (CLE), is an advanced eye surgery procedure in which the natural lens of the eye is replaced with a high-quality artificial lens (intraocular lens, IOL). This treatment is particularly suitable for people with presbyopia, high myopia (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) or astigmatism who are not candidates for laser treatments such as Femto-LASIK or PRK.
By using the femtosecond laser, lens replacement is performed with unprecedented precision, providing safer, more predictable and highly accurate results. The implantation of a monofocal, bifocal or multifocal lens allows patients to regain sharp vision, both near and far, with minimal dependence on glasses.
FemtoClear is a proven, safe and durable solution for people who want permanent correction of their vision, without the limitations of glasses or contact lenses.

Clear Lens Exchange with laser: FemtoClear
A femtosecond laser is an advanced medical laser that makes ultra-fast and extremely precise cuts in eye tissue without heat generation. The name refers to the femtosecond, one billionth of a second (0.000000000000001 seconds), which provides exceptional precision at the microscopic level.
In ophthalmology, the femtosecond laser is used primarily in cataract surgery and laser eye surgery. The laser replaces certain manual steps of the procedure, such as making incisions and fragmenting the cloudy lens. This reduces the use of mechanical instruments and improves the accuracy and safety of treatment.

Limbal relaxing incisions.
Femtolaser arcuate incisions are precise incisions on the cornea using a femtosecond laser. They are used to correct astigmatism by reshaping the cornea. This advanced technique offers improved precision and accuracy compared to manual incisions, resulting in improved visual outcomes for patients.

Femtolaser capsulorexis
Femtolaser capsulorexis is a surgical technique used to create a precise circular opening in the anterior capsule of the natural lens of the eye. This technique offers improved control and accuracy, facilitating subsequent removal of the cataract and placement of an intraocular lens. Femtolaser capsulorexis contributes to safer and more predictable cataract surgery with better visual outcomes.

Who is a FemtoClear treatment suitable for?

FemtoClear treatment, also known as Clear Lens Exchange (CLE), is ideal for people who want a glasses-free lifestyle without relying on glasses or contact lenses. This procedure is particularly suitable for:
- People with presbyopia (age-related farsightedness): When reading glasses become indispensable and multifocal contact lenses no longer feel comfortable.
- People with high hyperopia (farsightedness) or nearsightedness: If you are not a suitable candidate for laser treatment such as FemtoLasik or SMILE, FemtoClear can be an excellent alternative.
- People with incipient cataracts: If your vision is becoming blurred due to age-related changes in the lens of the eye, FemtoClear treatment can help restore your vision and avoid future cataract surgery.
- People who want to optimize their vision forever: The procedure prevents you from developing cataracts in the future because the natural lens is replaced with an advanced monofocal or multifocal implant lens.
A comprehensive preliminary examination with the ophthalmologist determines whether this treatment is the right choice for your eyes and lifestyle.
The benefits of FemtoClear (Clear Lens Exchange)

FemtoClear, also known as Clear Lens Exchange (CLE), is an advanced eye surgery procedure that replaces your natural eye lens with an artificial lens. This provides a permanent solution to vision problems such as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and presbyopia (presbyopia). Thanks to the latest femtosecond laser technology, the procedure is extremely precise and safe.
Why choose FemtoClear?
- A permanent solution to poor vision : Unlike glasses or contact lenses, FemtoClear offers a permanent correction of your vision. You no longer have to worry about changing strengths or new glasses.
- Prevents future cataract surgery: Because your natural lens is replaced, cataracts cannot develop again. So you won't have to undergo additional surgery later.
- Laser eye surgery not possible? This is an excellent alternative: Some people do not qualify for laser eye surgery because of a cornea that is too thin or high-strength. FemtoClear offers a safe alternative.
- Sharp vision at multiple distances: With a choice of monofocal, bifocal and multifocal implant lenses, your vision is optimally corrected for near, far and intermediate distances. This reduces dependence on glasses.
- Comfortable and painless procedure: Treatment is done under local anesthesia with drops, with no pain or discomfort. Most patients experience rapid healing and can return to normal function within a few days.
- Safe and precise thanks to the femtosecond laser: The procedure is performed with the Femto Z8 laser, which provides micrometric precision and gentle treatment of the eye. This increases safety and minimizes the risk of complications.

FemtoClear : Step-by-step: the treatment process.

Step 1: Your improved vision begins with a comprehensive consultation
The path to a glasses-free life begins with a comprehensive eye examination and consultation with an experienced ophthalmic surgeon. During this initial appointment, you will undergo a series of technical examinations to fully assess your eyes. This allows us to determine the most appropriate approach for your FemtoClear treatment.
The doctor carefully evaluates your refractive error and takes into account important aspects such as your general health, the condition of your eyes and your daily visual needs. Factors such as your occupation, hobbies and other visual activities are taken into account to ensure that your new vision best fits your lifestyle.
For measurement accuracy, we ask that you not wear contact lenses for 5 days prior to your examination. This helps us analyze the shape and properties of your cornea as precisely as possible.
At Focus Eye Clinic, we strive to not only correct your vision, but optimize it so that you can once again enjoy your daily activities with confidence.

Step 2: Preparation for FemtoClear treatment.
Upon arrival at our clinic, you will be welcomed by our qualified nursing staff. They will ensure that you are optimally prepared for the FemtoClear treatment, including by inserting eye drops and providing the necessary information about the procedure.
The treatment is performed under local anesthesia and under the supervision of an anesthesiologist. You will be administered a light sedative to make you feel relaxed. Your eyes are numbed locally with eye drops, so anesthesia or general anesthesia is not necessary.
You will then be escorted to the operating room, where your eye will be carefully disinfected and covered with a sterile dressing. Your eyelashes are held aside and your eye is reanesthetized to ensure comfort during the procedure.
To ensure that you do not blink or close your eye unconsciously, an eyelid retainer is placed. This allows the surgeon to perform the procedure with extreme precision and care.

Step 3 : The procedure itself
After dilation of the pupil, with femto laser (Z8 ZIEMER), two micro incisions (2.2 mm and 1 mm) are made in the cornea.
Afterwards, the same Femto laser is used to create a perfectly nicely centered round opening in the capsule. The femto laser will fragment the lens and prepare it for aspiration with the phako device.
The surgeon inserts the bifocal or multifocal lens through the micro incision. Afterwards, the micro incision is closed without wires.

Step 4: Enjoy your new vision!
Immediately after the procedure
One day after FemtoClear treatment, you can already see sharply again, and most people resume their daily activities almost immediately. Within a few weeks, vision stabilizes completely.
Some patients experience halos or halos of light around lights in the first few weeks, especially at night. This is a normal phenomenon involving the brain getting used to the new lenses. In most cases, these phenomena disappear on their own.
Aftercare & recovery
Our nursing team will provide you with a clear eye drop schedule to follow for one month.
Daily activities such as household chores, sports, driving and office work can be resumed quickly. When in doubt, it is always advisable to consult your doctor.
Check-up appointments
To follow up on your recovery optimally, we schedule the following checkups:
- 1st check-up: One day after the operation
- 2nd check-up: one month after the operation
Thanks to FemtoClear treatment, you can enjoy a carefree life again!
