Can an artificial lens shift?
An artificial lens is firmly anchored to the eye during lens implantation or cataract surgery, usually in the natural lens capsule. This normally keeps the lens in place and provides long-term stable vision.
Yet, in rare cases, an artificial lens can shift. This is called an artificial lens luxation or dislocation and can occur due to:
- Capsular instability after surgery
- Severe eye friction or trauma
- Conditions such as pseudoexfoliation syndrome
- Severe vitreous deterioration or retinal problems
When an artificial lens shifts, it can cause blurred vision, double vision or light distortions. In some cases, repositioning or replacement of the lens is required through a simple procedure.
At Focus Eye Clinic, each patient is carefully monitored after surgery to prevent complications. If there are changes in your vision, always contact your eye doctor.
