From what age can you get your eyes lasered?
At Focus Eye Clinic, we recommend a minimum age of 18 for laser eye surgery because the strength of your eyes can still change as you grow. Ideally, your glasses or contact lens strength should be stable for at least one to two years before you are eligible for FemtoLASIK, PRK or SMILE ReLEx.
For young adults between the ages of 18 and 25, extra attention is paid to the stability of myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism. In some cases, it may be wiser to wait until 25, especially if the eye strength is still changing.
There is no strict upper limit, but after 40 years, presbyopia (age-related farsightedness) may begin to play a role. In that case, lens implantation (ICL or multifocal implant lenses) may be a better alternative than laser eye surgery.
