What is an implant lens?
An implant lens, also called an artificial lens, is an advanced intraocular lens (IOL) that replaces or complements the natural lens of the eye. It may be needed for cataracts, severe nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) or presbyopia.
? Types of implant lenses:
- Monofocal lens - Sharp vision at one distance, usually distant.
- Multifocal lens - Provides good vision at multiple distances (far, middle and near).
- EDOF (Extended Depth of Focus) Bifocal lens - Provides a wider range of focus, ideal for people who often use computer screens.
- Phake ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) - Is placed before the natural lens and is suitable for those who cannot undergo laser eye surgery.
Who is an implantable lens suitable for?
Lens implantation is often used in patients with:
✅ Cataracts (clouding of the natural lens)
✅ High myopia or hyperopia
✅ Astigmatism
✅ Presbyopia (farsightedness in old age)
