What is the lifespan of an artificial lens?
An artificial lens, as used in lens implantation or cataract surgery, is made of high-quality biocompatible material and has a lifespan. This means that patients should not expect any wear or replacement after the procedure.
? Important points about the lifespan of an artificial lens:
✔ Continued clear vision - The lens does not wear out and remains stable in the eye.
✔ No aging - Unlike the natural eye lens, which can cloud due to cataracts, an artificial lens remains clear.
✔ Rarely needed replacement - In exceptional cases, a lens may need to be replaced, such as when the wrong prescription is chosen or complications arise.
⚠ What if vision deteriorates again after surgery?
Sometimes secondary cataracts (cataracts) occur, where a thin layer of cells obscures the back of the lens. This is easily remedied with YAG laser treatment, without having to replace the artificial lens.
