What types of artificial lenses are there?
Lens implantation or cataract surgery involves replacing the natural lens of the eye with an artificial lens. The choice of lens depends on the patient's visual needs and lifestyle.
Types of artificial lenses:
1️⃣ Monofocal artificial lens - Provides sharp vision at one distance (usually distant). Reading glasses are still required for near.
2️⃣ Multifocal artificial lens - Provides sharp vision at multiple distances (far, middle and near), often eliminating the need for glasses. Ideal for those who want to read and drive without glasses.
3️⃣ EDOF lens (Extended Depth of Focus) Bifocal lens - Increases depth of field, allowing sharp vision at both distant and intermediate distances. Reading may still require slight correction at times.
4️⃣ Phake ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) - An implantable contact lens placed in front of the natural lens of the eye. Suitable for young people with high myopia (myopia) or severe astigmatism who are not candidates for laser eye surgery.
