When is it not possible to laser your eyes?
Laser eye surgery is not possible in the following situations:
1. Too high a power:
- Nearsightedness (myopia) higher than -10 diopters
- Farsightedness (hyperopia) higher than +4 diopters
- Astigmatism higher than 6 diopters
In such cases, a lens implant (ICL) may be an alternative.
- 2. Thin or irregular corneas:
- A cornea that is too thin (<480 µm) may pose risks of instability.
- In cases of keratoconus or another corneal abnormality, laser eye surgery is not safe.
- 3. Eye diseases and conditions:
- Cataracts (cataracts)
- Glaucoma with increased eye pressure
- Severe dry eyes
- Retinal problems such as diabetic retinopathy
- 4. Age and stability:
- Under 18 years of age (eyes are still developing)
- Strength must be stable for at least 1 year
- In cases of presbyopia (presbyopia), lens implantation may be a better alternative.
- 5. Pregnancy and breastfeeding:
- Hormonal fluctuations may temporarily affect vision.
- It is recommended to wait until at least 6 months after breastfeeding.
A preliminary examination at the ophthalmologist is necessary for a definitive evaluation. If laser eye surgery is not possible, there are often alternatives such as ICL implantation or lens replacement.
