Will I have pain after the eye laser treatment?
Most patients experience little to no pain after LASIK or SMILE treatment. You may experience a slight burning or dry feeling, similar to sand in the eyes, but this usually disappears within a few hours. Most people can resume normal activities by the next day.
With PRK, recovery may be slightly more uncomfortable. Because these methods require the superficial layer of the cornea (the epithelium) to recover first, you may experience mild to moderate pain, sensitivity to light and watery eyes for the first 2 to 4 days. In some cases, this may last longer. Eye drops, artificial tears and painkillers are often prescribed to reduce discomfort. Sunglasses can also help against bright light and additional sensitivity.
Within a few days, the pain lessens significantly, and after about a week, most patients feel comfortable again. If you have questions or persistent symptoms, it is always wise to consult your ophthalmologist at Focus Eye Clinic for professional advice and follow-up care.
